An Afternoon Tea Bridal Shower: Teatime at Lady Mendl’s NYC
A fan of Bridgerton? Lived abroad and forever have a piece of England with you? Or just love tea and small bites of sweet and savory? Have your bridal shower at a tea salon, like this bride-to-be!
Look no further if you appreciate a blend of Georgian aesthetic mixed with bright colors: Lady Mendl’s is the perfect location to host your intimate celebration. Like her love for bright colors in interior design, Lady Mendl was also known to be a queer woman, so you can celebrate your gathering with that nugget of knowledge in your pocket.
When exploring venues, consider one that aligns with your values or shows a piece of you. In this case, Annie had lived in England for a bit— what better way to revisit those days than to enjoy teatime with some of her favorite ladies?
Before guests arrived, the bride-to-be had some lovely photos of herself taken as well as all the special details, a customized jean jacket made by her bridal party. An idea for Maids-of-Honor: Annie’s lovely Maid of Honor wrote one wish for the bride-to-be for each month counting down to her wedding day.
It’s best to have portraits of yourself to tell the full story: the outfit you chose to wear, the details of your accessories, and some less rushed images with the ladies helping out with the set up!
Lady Mendl’s afternoon tea is a five-course ordeal, starting with a soup or salad after guests had settled in with their glass of sparkling - or aperol spritz, the bride’s preferred beverage.
Just at the beginning of the event was emotional: the bride-to-be’s mother gifted her a robe for Annie’s wedding day, repurposed from her own wedding dress.
The remaining courses followed with tiered trays of assorted sandwiches, warm scones with the littlest jars of jam and clotted cream, a crepe cake, petit fours, and an abundance of joy and laughter.
And of course, the groom-to-be joined toward the end of the event for one last game: the wedding shoe game, packed with questions like, “Who said ‘I love you’ first?”, and “Who cooks more?”
Before that, we snuck away for a few minutes to get photos of the future Mr. and Mrs. and wrapped up with the loveliest photo with the bride and all her bridesmaids with the color of the day: purple, with shades of lavender, lilac, and mauve.
